Voice of healing comes through
by Karen McCowan

Nancy Hopps didn't set out to become an expert on coaching others through cancer treatment. "But everybody has their gifts, and this is one of mine," she said. "I know how to do this." That know-how was hard won. Hopps survived her own uterine cancer, diagnosed in 1998. She helped care for her son's fiancée, who died in 1999 from a recurrence of childhood kidney cancer. And she supported her then 19-year-old daughter through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment after her Hodgkin's lymphoma was diagnosed in February 2005.

The resulting wisdom was "a gift I never would have wished for," said Hopps.  more...

Interview with Neela Sakaria for Bowker's Bookwire

"All my audio products, including the RELAX INTO HEALING series, evolved out of my teaching and counseling experiences. I began teaching at a community college in 1981, then was adjunct faculty at the U of Oregon for about 7 years. This led to doing talks and workshops for civic and professional organizations, getting involved in a number of stress-related research projects, as well as maintaining a private practice. So basically, the tapes (and later, cd's) came into being in response to students' and clients' requests - they'd tell my how well they relaxed in class, but had difficulty reproducing that state on their own. So, in 1989, I produced my first tape with a little cassette recorder and Radio Shack microphone in my living room, and ran off about 50 copies."  more..

Being the Change We Seek
These are profound times we’re living in. Most everyone I talk to these days has a sense that things are “heating up”. Whether viewed as a quantum physics phenomenon, a Mayan calendar prediction, or simply a gut feeling, the pervading energy is just more…intense. The highs are higher, the lows are lower. Time seems to be speeding up. There seems to be an urgency to really listen and act upon the soul calling we may have been resisting and/or fearing for perhaps a very long time. Clearly, individually or collectively, the old ways aren’t working anymore.

Life seems to be presenting each of us with unique and perfect opportunities for healing whatever it is that we most need to heal. Everyone’s “stuff” is up to be dealt with. Although not always easy, my soul is shouting, “Hooray!!” more...

Embracing change allows choice of love over fear - The Register Guard, May 31, 2008
Recently I was reminded of one of my favorite scenes from the musical, “Fiddler on the Roof”. Tevye, a poor Russian milkman, is listening to an argument between his longtime villager friend, and Perchik, a young revolutionary student. They’re discussing the merits of keeping abreast of political and social changes happening outside their little village. The villager presents his reasoning, and Tevye comments, “You’re right!”  Then Perchik presents his case, and Tevye again concludes, “You’re right!” Another who’s been listening replies, “He's right and he's right? They can't both be right.” At this point Tevye scratches his head, and in his best Yiddish accent says, “You know, you are also right.”
Therein lies the nature of paradox.  This little scene is a beautiful example of how sometimes it’s necessary to adopt a higher perspective in order to see the big picture, to allow seeming opposites to be true at the same time. more...

High Alert vs Higher Awareness: Choosing Love, Not Fear
As I write, we’re approaching the third anniversary of 9-11.  And what a three years it has been!  Within this time span, I have witnessed and experienced mind-boggling changes on so many fronts – in my own personal life, in the lives of friends, family, students and clients, as well as the massive changes occurring with ever-increasing intensity on global levels.  The changes have been challenging, frightening, exciting, foundation-shaking, awe-inspiring……..and always, they have been great catalysts for growth and awakening. more...

At 44 years of age, happy, healthy, and in great physical shape,  I certainly did not fit the profile of who’s “supposed to” get uterine cancer.  What follows is excerpted from an article I wrote in October, 1999, just months after my diagnosis...  I was diagnosed in December of ’98 with uterine cancer.  Since then, my life has revolved around “The C-word”, and all its related c-words: challenge, commitment, courage, choice, and compassion.   The diagnosis was a shock, on the one hand, and at the same time had a strange sort of “Oh, ok, here we are at this chapter – time to play it out so I can get on with what it is I’m really here to do” feeling.  more..

What do you really want to offer your customers this holiday season?
As retailers of New Age products, of course you want to provide the latest titles, interesting gifts, and  enlightening information.  But we’ve all felt the frustration of getting so caught up in the nuts and bolts of  the business stuff , that sometimes we feel we just don’t  have much energy left over for the things that are really important. …  Like being fully present. Radiating an aura of calmness and serenity.   And just plain enjoying what you’re doing. more..
